Americans live to work, and Europeans work to live, so the saying goes. Whether through conscious efforts, or from giving up to corporate interests long ago, this saying is true these days. The thought of tens of millions working Americans wasting away with little or no vacation benefits in jobs they hate is a national, unspoken tragedy.
There’s simply more to life than work. Yes, it’s all something we need to do. And yes, for some of us it’s a point of enormous pride and a sense of well-being.
