Workshop Blues

I’m sitting here in a convention center somewhere in or near Incheon, on a Saturday, for a mandatory day-long workshop for our parent company, Korea Poly Schools. This workshop is, thus far, proving to be just as boring and unhelpful as the last one in the fall, with the side benefit of being even more time-consuming.

The highlight, without a doubt, was an excellent buffet with all sorts of fresh sushi and sashimi along with several hardier dishes.

Most of the sessions have been pretty ho-hum; in fact, I’m certain I sat through the exact same Powerpoint presentation, with the same speaker, six months ago. On the other hand, I did attend a session with my Korean Teacher to help build communication and collaboration, which was quite helpful.

I’m typing this while attending a session on correcting writing, and despite our friend’s best efforts, the subject material is a snooze. (Literally, I just spied one of my managers dozing off). I’ve had three cups of coffee, and writing this is all that is keeping my head off the table, or worse, the dreaded half-asleep head-bob. I’m not alone; I see people writing in their journals, whispering jokes and smart-ass comments to each other, and checking out basketball scores on their phones.

Thankfully, just one more session after this one, and my weekend can finally begin! And it’s the last workshop I have to attend. So I have that going for me, which is nice.
